Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cell morphogenesis involved in differentiation; regulation of ion transmembrane transport; and striated muscle cell differentiation. Located in several cellular components, including Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse; intercalated disc; and myelin sheath abaxonal region. Part of integrin alpha7-beta1 complex. Is integral component of synaptic membrane. Colocalizes with cytoplasmic vesicle and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; heart; and limb. Used to study Hirschsprung's disease. Orthologous to human ITGB1 (integrin subunit beta 1).
